Energize yourself!

Are you one of those people who gets energized during the holidays and then crashes as soon as they’re over? Or are you just tired already? Okay, I guess there is a third option and you are the person who sails through the holidays, never batting an eyelash or skipping a beat. If that’s you, send this to your friends who are just a tad jealous of you.

We all know that the best way to keep our energy up is to get enough sleep, avoid too much stress and eat well. Hmmmmm… I don’t know about you, but that becomes incredibly challenging for me at this time of year. So here are a few tips to keep you going.

  1. Avoid energy drinks! Even though they may give you a temporary boost, they will end up wearing you (and your adrenals) out much quicker. As you may know, drinks like Monster and 5-Hour Energy have been under some scrutiny lately for 14 different deaths occurring after consuming these. It’s better to have an extra glass of water to give the cells in your body a chance to function properly.
  2. Eat breakfast! This really is the meal that will set you, your blood sugar and your metabolism up for the entire day. If you’re busy, make a protein smoothie and take it to go.
  3. Think protein and snacks! Eat small meals throughout the day to make sure your body has the extra energy it needs to power you through. You can do something as simple as having a bag of almonds, cashews, and pumpkin seeds on hand to grab small handfuls throughout the day.
  4. Support your adrenals! These tiny little glands give you energy AND give you the boosts you need to deal with stress. This is a big topic, so I think I’ll write more about the specifics in my next post. For now, consider drinking licorice tea in the morning (as long as you don’t have high blood pressure)!
